Privacy policy

Last updated: October 21, 2026. Applies to ScreenShield 3.0 and later, and to this website.

ScreenShield is a privacy tool, so it is built to know as little about you as possible. Here is exactly what it does with your data.

The short version

What happens on the pages you visit

ScreenShield runs on the pages you open so it can re-apply the blurs you saved and, if you use automatic detection, hide sensitive information while the page loads. To do that, it reads the text of the page and of form fields inside your browser.

The kinds of information it looks for are emails, phone numbers, card numbers, IBANs, US Social Security numbers, IP addresses, API keys, access tokens, JWTs, private keys, database connection URLs, secrets inside links, crypto wallet addresses, money amounts and the keywords you add yourself. Whatever it finds is used only in memory to hide it on screen. It is not stored, logged or transmitted.

Two things are saved, and neither contains the text itself:

What is stored on your computer

ScreenShield uses Chrome's extension storage on your computer. This data stays there unless you export a backup file yourself.

DataWhy
Settings: blur strength and style, detection choices, your keywords, Presentation Mode and appearance optionsSo ScreenShield works the way you set it up
Saved blurs for each site: the site's address, and the page path when you choose to remember a pageSo your blurs come back when you return
Your plan status: whether you have Pro, which plan, and when it was last checkedSo Pro keeps working when you're offline
Install details: install date, version, whether you've seen the welcome page, and how often we've asked for a ratingTo show the welcome and what's-new pages once, and to not ask for ratings too often
While Chrome is open: whether Presentation Mode or the panic screen is on, and plan pricesCleared when you close Chrome

Protected screenshots are held briefly in the extension's memory so the screenshot page can show them. ScreenShield never saves them to disk; that only happens if you download one.

Payments and Pro

ScreenShield sells Pro through ExtensionPay, and card payments are processed by Stripe. When you start a trial or buy a plan, you do it on their pages. ScreenShield never sees your card details.

ExtensionPay describes its own data handling in the privacy answers of the ExtensionPay FAQ. Stripe's is in the Stripe privacy policy.

When you uninstall

Chrome opens a short page on this website asking why you removed ScreenShield. Its address includes the ScreenShield version number and nothing else. Answering is optional.

This website

This is a static website. It sets no cookies and loads no analytics or third-party scripts; even the fonts are served from this site. Like any web host, our hosting provider processes visitors' IP addresses to deliver the pages and protect the site from abuse, and doesn't share them with us for tracking.

If you contact us through the support form or the Chrome Web Store support tab, we receive what you write and the email address you give, and use them only to reply to you.
